Funeral Services Held for Mrs. Morrison on Tuesday

The many friends of Mrs. Abby Evelyn Morrison gathered at the Lind Methodist church at 10 o'clock, Tuesday morning to honor her passing, one of Lind's older and best lolved pioneers. Rev. W. H. Richey, pastor, officiated at the funeral services, the church beautiful with the number of flower offerings from those who knew her.

"Abide With Me," and "Asleep in Jesus," were songs sung by Mrs. Nonie Smart and Mrs. Farrell Fode. Mrs. J. N. Campbell played the organ.

Abby Morrison's death came suddenly last week. She was taken to the hospital at Ritzville Friday morning, December 14, and passed away the morning of December 15 at the age of 82.

Daughter of Frank W. Parker and Mary E. Parker, she was born July 11, 1869 at LeSeur, Minnesota. She was wed to Charles Morrison in 1882, and to this union 10 children were born, of whom 7 survive.

Mrs. Morrison and her family moved to Washington and in 1885 homesteaded at Spokane, on the north side of the Spokane river, a locality than called Spokane Falls. Early life and pioneering, its vital needs and ability to meet each year and season, and in in it, is revealed on old ledgers and records still in the family, telling graphically the story of life as it was lived in the 1880's.

In 1899 the Morrisons moved to Crab Creek, Griffiths' Corner, and in September, 1902 they became residents of Lind, where they have lived for near half a century.

Mrs. Morrison was a charter member of the Maccabees and active in the Community Aid. When their family of children were going to Lind schools, the Morrison's house and hearts were open to any who have since grown up in Lind and remember well a good friend of their younger days.

With seven living children of her own, all grown and married, Abby Morrison still showed her love for the young by adopting a daughter, Peggy.

She is survived by her sons, Charles R. Morrison of Washtucna, Ralph James Morrison of Tacoma, Bernarde Morrison of St. Joe, Idaho, Clayton Ray Morrison of Tacoma, and Floyd Morrison of Lind. Her daughters are Mary Winnefred Richey of Troutdale, Oregon and Helen Luella Parish of Lind. Her adopted daughter is Peggy Morrison.

Services were also said at the cemetery at Peone Prairie, where her brother, the one older member of her family, was able to attend, Alvy Parker of Hillyard.

The cemetery itself is one which members of Mrs. Morrison's family together with other pioneers, founded in 1892, and there Abby E. Morrison's husband, members of her family, and many pioneers and friends whom she knew in early life are laid to rest. Well endowed, it is a beautifully kept rural cemetery, and only a few are living of the early residents and founders.
