The biography I have for Nancy Jane Caruthers is courtesy of Mark Wilson, a cousin of ours from MN and is as follows:
Nancy Jane was one of the daughters of James Caruthers, who was one of the earlier settlers in the Kanawha River Valley. She was raised in the family cabin near the mouth of the Poca River.
The date of Nancy Jane's birth is subject to conjecture. Her tombstone in the Blue Grass Cemetery says that she was 71 years old when she died (giving a birth year of 1794/1795). Census records of her age vary widely, saying, for example, that she was 59 in 1850 (birth year 1790/91), and 73 in 1860 (birth year 1786/87). A birth date much later than 1795 would make it difficult to believe a marriage took place in 1810.
Nancy Jane was one of the administrators of Andrew's will after he died in 1850. It was soon after his death that she moved with her children, first to Indiana, then to Minnesota, where whe lived with her son John until her death.
She is buried next to John in the Blue Grass Cemetery in LeSueur County, Minnesota. Her daughter, Harriet, and granddaughter, Louisa, are buried nearby.
