Addendum: At Rootsweb.com there is a marriage between Mary Carruthers, born in 1790, and Joseph Higgenbotham; married 21 Aug 1827. This is most likely the Joseph and wife, Mary referred to in the Land Transfer.
Alexander S. Caruthers and wife, Catherine, were probably Alexander Sawney Caruthers who married Catherine Hedrick. He was brother to Mary, who married Joseph Hickenbotham, and son of James Caruthers and Mary Stewart.
It is most likely that the Parrish's were also related by marriage. If anyone has further information or ideas, please contact me at deharley@yahoo.com.
