Clare, in Suffolk, or "Earl of Clare", Justiciary of England, 1073, being lord
steward to King Henry I, obtained from that monarchy the barony of Dunmow, in
Essex, forfeited by William de Baynard, as also the honor of Baynard Castle, in
the city of London, and, dying about 1134, he had issue by his wife, "Maud,
Lady of Bradham", (reputed daughter of Simon de St. Liz, first Earl of
Huntingdon), Walter fitz Robert, second lord of Dunmow Castle, eldest son.
