HISTORY: Name is written as Rynold de Wynterwade in the Doomsday Book. He was
living at the time of the Norman conquest in 1066. As at that time there were
no surnames, he was simply Reginald, Lord of Wentworth. He was the possessor in
Saxon times of the lordship of Wentworth, in the Wapentake of Strafford, in the
West Riding of Yorkshire. Yorkshire consists of three divisions, known as
North, East, and West Ridings. Wentworth is in the Parish of Wath-upon-Dearn,
about nine miles from Sheffield.

HISTORY: known in history as William the Lion, King of Scotland. Was King of
Scots from 1165-1214. He inherited in 1152 the Earldom of Northumberland, but 5 years later Henry II of England annexed it. William succeeded his elder
brother, Malcolm IV, to Scottish throne. Hoping to regain Northumberland,
William invaded England in 1174, but was captured at Almswick. After being
imprisoned in Normandy, William was released in return for allegiance to Henry II. He subsequently signed Treaty of Falaise, acknowledging Henry as feudal superior and overlord of Scotland. In 1189 he bought back the sovereignty of Scotland by donating 10,000 Merks to Richard I's third crusade.

HISTORY: Walter FitzRobert was the second lord of Dunmow Castle. In the
controversy between the Earl of Moreton, brother of King Richard I, and the
Bishop of Ely, governor of the realm during the King's absence in the Holy
Land, Walter adhered to the bishop, and was given custody of the Castle of Eye,
in Suffolk. He married first, Maud, who died in 1140. With her he had the
lordship of Disce, in Norfolk, and married, secondly, Margaret de Bohun, and
dying in 1198, was succeeded by his eldest son, Robert FitzWalter.
