NOTES: For the months of July and August, 1863, John was reported absent, wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, July 3rd, 1863, where he sustained a gunshot wound to the left foot. He was sent to the General Hospital in Philadelphia in July of 1863; then was transferred to Cleveland, Ohio to the General Hospital where he remained until November of 1863. John was then returned to his unit in Tennessee, but could not march.

Additionally, John was treated by Dr. Kennedy of Seneca County, Ohio for sunstroke and disease of the lungs.
