I am searching for information about James Henry Harley who was born November 23, 1860. He married Milinda Ami Sette Adams. His brother, Dee Harley married Matty Adams who was a twin sister to Milinda. Oral family history links the Adams' of our family to the early presidents, but I have been unable to establish such a link. Both families came from Kentucky, or perhaps across the Ohio River in Indiana.

I can trace my direct family origins to 1704 in the parish of Oaken, Codsall, Staffordshire, England. It was here that Thomas Areley/Airley was settled under the Poor Law with his wife Ann (no maiden name known). They had five surviving children, all baptised in Pattingham.
Mary, 12 May 1705
Thomas, 13 Nov 1708
George, 23 Sept 1711
Joseph, 26 Dec 1714, and
James, 6 July 1718.
Thomas (senior) was probably born around 1685 and died 19 June 1720. The family lived for many generations in and around the villages of Boningale and Albrighton. Common names for offspring were, John, Thomas, George, Titus, Joseph, Ann, Mary and Sarah. Although the heraldic Harley family lived in nearby Brampton Bryan, I can find no connection to their line. However, it might be possible that as predominately farm labourers that the name was `adopted` as from working for that family? Lastly, the actual name has many combinations of spelling, Areley and Airley being just two. My only known connection with the Americas is that I had an uncle who moved to Vancouver BC just prior to World War II. In the past others may have left England as economic migrants?

My main area of research is the Scottish Harleys, I have much information about the early families but cannot bridge the gap to my grandfather, Kenneth Harley (b. Scotland / Edinburgh circa 1874.) Meanwhile, whilst chasing aimlessly round trying to track him down I have amassed a great deal of other Harley data, irrelevant to my direct line but of possible use to others so I have started to build a website, http://www.harley.4t.com . If anyone else can find any information on it relevant to their researches I would be so pleased! I would be very happy to hear from any Harley researchers, especially those with Scottish connections.

My ancestors came from Garthorpe, Leicestershire. My 4x great grandfather was not born there and I've never been able to find out where he came from. He married Elizabeth Freck in 1800 ut seems to have just 'dropped' out of the sky as I can find no other Harleys' in the area. Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi: I am descended from William Harley b. in Courtmacsherry, Cork County, c. 1798. William was a land surveyor and emigrated with his brother John Harley (ship builder) to New Brunswick c. 1820. William married Ann MacLean d/o Capt. Archibald MacLean. Family rumour says that William Harley is descended from the Earl of Oxford but I've never found supporting evidence.
